2 days . Arkansas River . Family
You will arrive at our Canon City office, 2315 East Main St., directly across the highway from McDonalds at 9:00, where you will be greeted by our friendly staff. Then sign waivers, check-in, and take care of any outstanding financial matters. Note you can up-grade your trip to include the Royal Gorge on the last day for un additional $45. Ask the reservationists for details. At check-in take the opportunity to decide if you are going to take advantage of our free wetsuit, splash jacket, and river bootie use. Also you will be assigned dry bags for your gear and a sleeping bag, sleeping pad, and a tent if you have reserved them. You'll have a chance to meet with your guides to discuss the storage of any items you wish to bring with you on the trip. Get changed in our new spacious dressing rooms and lock up your stuff in your car or in our lockers. DON'T take your car keys on the river! We will then fit you with a life jacket and a helmet. Let's get to the river! We'll transport you to the river in one of our vans or busses, give you a thorough safety talk and paddling instructions before your adventure begins. Once on the water, you will have time to get to know your guide, practice your paddle stroke, and enjoy the wide open space of upper Big Horn canyon. You and your crew will have ample time during this first 10 mile section to relax in between navigating class II rapids and watching for deer and big horn sheep. Mid day you'll enjoy a light delicious lunch and that evening be prepared to be blown away by the guides as they prepare a riverside meal that will dazzle your appetite. After your filling meal, you can enjoy stories by the fire until you retire to your tent and drift off to sleep to the sound of the relaxing river. Wake up to the smell of coffee and bacon. That's right, the guides are cooking again and it smells delicious. After breakfast, pack your gear and get back on the water. Today the river picks up. Your morning will be packed with lots of Class II and III rapids. After navigating another 10 plus miles you'll stop at Parkdale Beach where you will either end your trip and get on the bus, or if you up-graded, you'll eat lunch and continue through the hair raising Royal Gorge. This is the only way to top off an already great experience. If you Up-graded, lunch is served! You will enjoy a deli-style lunch at the river's edge served just the way you like it. You'll have your choice of thin sliced ham, turkey, and cheeses, coupled with tomato, cucumbers, pickles, and an array of condiments. To compliment your sandwich, your lunch will also include chips, dips, fresh fruits and vegetables, cookies, and crackers. And of course, beverages are provided as well. After a relaxing lunch, it's back to the river! You will have a short float to bush up on your paddle stroke before the river disappears into the 1100 foot gorge. You'll be surrounded by incredible views and swirling white water. You and your crew will navigate class IV and V rapids like Sunshine Falls, Sledge Hammer, and Boat Eater. Soon the water will calm and you will find yourself floating back into Canon City. There you will rendezvous with a Raft Masters' vehicle which will transport you a short distance back to our headquarters. Once you have returned to Raft Masters, check-in your rafting equipment, take a warm shower, and change into your warm clothes. Then join us in the gift shop to check out your action-packed photos and to listen to the wild stories of the day. Also you will have the opportunity to purchase souvenirs for yourself or a friend or family member who couldn't make the trip.
