The Rio Grande trip covers ground that once held the railroad tracks that came into Aspen. Though it was used for travelers, its primary use was to carry silver ore. From start to finish, there is an elevation drop, but it is so gradual that you would think the trail is flat. The trail begins in Aspen as a a paved bike path that turns into a dirt trail, following the river. The dirt trail takes us into Woody Creek where we pick up a paved bike path. Arrive at the Woody Creek Tavern in time for lunch. The Tavern is a funky, eclectic eatery and landmark frequented by locals, tourise and celebrities.
Minimum Age: own bike - 8; in burley - 1*. Length: 3.5 hours. Season: May to October. (Includes refreshments) *1-3 year olds can ride in burley, and 4-7 year olds can ride with hook-on bike.
