Itinerary

Checking In

Before you head out the door, double-check the meeting time listed on your confirmation.  This is the time you want to arrive at the outpost.  If you arrive earlier than the listed time, you may spend a lot of time waiting around for the other groups to arrive.  If you arrive 20+ minutes after the listed time, you will forfeit your reservation.

Waivers

Once you arrive at our outpost, check in with our friendly office staff and sign liability waivers.   You can also download and print your waivers in advance.   If anyone in your group is under 18 years old and will not be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, they will need to get their waiver signed in advance and bring it with them the day of the trip.  After you've checked in, our staff will direct you outside where you will receive your climbing harness and helmet and meet your guide.

Climbing

We'll head to Granite Gorge, about five minutes up the road, where your adventure begins. After a short hike into the gorge, you'll start learning all the basics from your guide. Depending on how much you want to learn, you'll cover such things as rope management, knot tying, belaying, setting up anchors and more. You can attempt climbs on several different routes of varying difficulty. You'll also do a couple different rappels, from 30 to 75 feet!

Ziplining
After a morning of climbing, you'll have worked up an appetite so it's time to break for a gourmet boxed lunch and gear up for the afternoon.  Ziplining is one of the most exciting and popular activities in the Colorado Rockies.  Our zipline course is integrated into the wooded and craggy surroundings of our mountainous 43-acre Gold Camp property. Take in the views of snow-capped peaks and the Arkansas River as you zip from cliff to cliff between the pine and aspen trees.
Post-Trip Review
After you get back to the outpost, it's time to turn in your gear and relax after an action-packed day.   Browse our retail shop for tons of AVA paraphernalia, from t-shirts and hats to picture frames and coffee mugs.

Recommended Gear List

For rock climbing, please wear comfortable clothing that you can easily move in.  We recommend that you bring layers as it can be cold in the mornings or later in the afternoon.
Bring comfortable shoes with good soles such as tennis shoes.
You may also want to bring money to purchase souvenirs at our retail shop or to tip your guides.  Climbing and zip lining are service industries; gratuities are not expected, but they are appreciated!

For your Ziplining, AVA provides your harness and all technical equipment for ziplining.  In addition, please bring the following with you:
-Close-toed, sturdy shoes such as sneakers or hiking boots. NO sandals, Crocs, or watershoes allowed.
-Long pants, capris, or knee length shorts
-No baggy clothing that could get tangled in the harness and gear

We also recommend:
-A shirt with a collar, as the harness straps sit close to your neckline and can rub (some notice this, others don't)
-Rain Gear (we zip rain or shine)
-A small camera (must fit in a pocket and have a wrist strap)

In addition, please secure long hair in a ponytail and tape any body piercings.  Do not wear any dangly jewelry.
