Completed in 1884, this spectacular stretch of three-foot narrow gauge railroad was considered an engineering marvel for its time. The thriving mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume lie two miles apart in a steep, narrow mountain canyon. To connect them, the railroad's builders designed a "corkscrew" route that traveled twice the distance, slowly gaining more than 600 feet in elevation. It included horseshoe curves, grades of up to 4%, and four bridges across Clear Creek, including the massive Devil's Gate High Bridge. Today, the Georgetown Loop Railroad brings Colorado history to life in a fun adventure that will thrill the entire family!
The beauty of the Rocky Mountains surrounds you as an old-time steam locomotive chugs its way up the canyon, hauling your train past the remains of several gold and silver mines. Take four bridges over Clear Creek, including the famous Devil's Gate High Bridge!
The Georgetown Loop Railroad has open cars, closed cars, and covered cars (with open windows). Because Colorado weather can vary, we recommend bringing multiple layers of clothing to stay comfortable in both warm and cool conditions.
ALL GEORGETOWN LOOP RR trips are run by a partner company. Their cancellation is as follows: while every effort is made to adhere to the published schedule, the Georgetown Loop Railroad reserves the right to delay or cancel trains for any reason and will not be held liable. Locomotives and passenger cars are subject to change without notice. Reservations are for a specific date and departure. Please allow sufficient driving time. Like any ticketed event, all sales are final, and no refunds are offered. Colorado weather is unpredictable and the railroad operates open cars, rain or shine. Be prepared, as no refunds or rainchecks are offered for inclement weather.
