Zambezi River Expedition

The Zambezi River's Victoria Falls has awed visitors with its grandiosity and its beauty for time memorial. A world heritage site and one of the seven natural wonders of the world, "Vic Falls" remains protected under the auspices of the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia.  Spilling into a gorge nearly four hundred feet deep and a mile wide, the falls' spray has created its own tropical rainforest ecosystem in the midst of semi-arid African tundra, replete with a dazzling array of flora, monkeys and birds of a thousand varieties, and a constant array of ephemeral rainbows. Due to the spectacular nature of Vic Falls and to the abundance of activities in the area, Mosi-Oa-Tunya is the safest and the most oft visited tourist destination in Zambia. Contrary to the media's interpretation of the region, Zambian government agencies have kept the area safe and free of political unrest in order to maintain its thriving tourist industry. Nearby Livingstone, Zambia likewise has maintained political stability, and boasts quaint English-style districts of tin-roofed Victorian homes and wooden verandas. Dubbed the adventure capital of Africa, the area surrounding Vic Falls offers a range of activities, from bungee jumping over the Zambezi to sunset safari canoe cruises on the river's mellower stretches; and just downstream of the falls courses one of the most thrilling and adventurous river trips in the world! An authentic African adventure, the Zambezi remains one top destinations for adventure travel on Earth. Check out our Zambezi River travel itinerary below and call today to book your spot on this once in a lifetime expedition!

Typical Day on the Zambezi

Wake up on "river time", the sun lets you know when it's time to get up and enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea by the campfire. Shortly thereafter, a hearty breakfast is ready for your enjoyment. Next, it's time to break down camp and to pack up your personal gear.

Sometime between 9 and 10 a.m, we finish loading the rafts and prepare for the day's  excitement. After a couple hours of the largest pool/drop rapids in the world, we start looking for a nice shady lunch pullover. Lunch on the river usually consists of fresh salad and sandwiches, lots of water and juice, and something sweet for dessert. After a short siesta in the shade, it's time to gear up and get back on the river.

Next, we spend three to four more hours descending the river and enjoying awesome whitewater. In the pools between the rapids, we will spot an abundance of the exotic wildlife residing in and next to the mighty Zambezi. Sometimes it's hard to distinguish whether or not that thing on the side of the river is a rock formation or a sunbathing crocodile!

After the afternoon's excitement, it's time to find camp. A typical camp on the Zambezi is an enormous, pristine, white sand beach. With everyone's help, camp is set and it's time for happy hour and another incredible African sunset!

Dinner preparation is always fun as everyone helps out by slicing and dicing and retelling stories of the day's adventures. Don't pass up your nightly Gin and Tonics! The dinners are always satisfying and include such fare as barbequed meats, fresh fruits and vegetables, an array of salads, and gourmet pasta dishes.

Typically, after dinner, everyone relaxes around the fire enjoying a crystal-clear stargazers paradise. Following "river time," we head off to bed in preparation for another full day of adventure.
