Raft the nation's most popular stretch of whitewater! This Class III intermediate run through Brown's Canyon provides fun for everyone. Appropriate for all ages, it's safe enough for the little ones and exciting enough to entertain the experienced rafters. The perfect family trip. You'll splash through rapids such as Pinball, Zoom Flume and the Seven Stairs while admiring a beautiful and remote granite canyon. Even better, we'll pick you up in Keystone and drop you off at the end of the day so you don't have to worry about driving to our office.

Itinerary
Door to Door Service

The ultimate in convenience! Let us take care of all the details; your job is to have fun. We’ll pick you up mid-morning at either Breckenridge or Keystone and drive you to the AVA Outpost, about 1 ¼ hours away, where you’ll get outfitted with wetsuits and splash jackets (if the weather warrants their use), life jackets and helmets. You’ll change into your rafting clothes and then off we go to the river!

Take Me to the River

We’ll head to the river, where your guides will give you a thorough safety talk. Then you’ll get into the boat, pick up a paddle and listen to your guide give you some paddling instruction. You’ll practice your paddling strokes, and before you know it you’ll be heading right into the whitewater! Splash and laugh your way down the river—you’ll be amazed at the thrill from working as a team to tackle the rapids. The scenery of Brown’s Canyon—a Wilderness Study Area—is worth the trip alone. Leave the chaos at home as you explore this remote canyon with very little road access. We'll stop midway for a sizzling chicken fajita lunch beside the river. At the end of your trip, an AVA vehicle will be waiting to take you back to the AVA Outpost.

The Post-Trip Review

After we return to the AVA Outpost, change into your dry clothes and come inside to check out the hilarious and action-packed photos from the day. After viewing your photos, you’ll have an opportunity to have them printed right there at our office or to have them burned to a disc to take home and print out yourself. Our retail shop has tons of AVA and rafting paraphernalia, from t-shirts and hats to picture frames and coffee mugs. Then we’ll head back to Keystone or Breckenridge to drop you off where we picked you up that morning. A full day of Colorado fun!

Waivers

You can also download and print your waivers in advance. If anyone in your group is under 18 years old and will not be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, they will need to get their waiver signed in advance and bring it with them the day of the trip.

Gear List

AVA provides wetsuits and splash jackets free of charge if the weather warrants their use. Wearing a wetsuit is often not necessary; they are most often needed early season, if the weather is rainy, for our Class IV-V trips, or for folks who get cold easily, such as small children. In addition please bring the following with you:

Footwear: Bring shoes that stay securely on your feet and can get wet. Tennis shoes, sport sandals (that strap on), or water shoes all work very well. NO FLIP-FLOPS AND NO CROCS ALLOWED. AVA does not have booties for rent, however we do sell water shoes in our retail store at the AVA Outpost and at the Clear Creek office.

Swimsuit to wear under wetsuit

Sunglasses and strap to secure glasses

Sunscreen and lip balm with sunscreen

Additional Layers: Lightweight, quick-drying clothing. If you don't want to wear a wetsuit (much of the summer it is too hot to wear one), please bring swimsuits and quick-drying shorts (nylon, etc) to wear. Fleece, polypropylene or other synthetic base layers (i.e. a Dri-fit shirt) are great additional layers in case we have cold or rainy weather. We recommend that you DO NOT wear cotton on the river. It stays wet and makes you cold. Save the cotton clothing to change into after your trip.

Water Bottle

Money for souvenirs or to tip your guide. Rafting is a service industry; gratuities are not expected, but they are appreciated!

Summit County is one of Colorado's best and most popular playgrounds. As the snow melts away, the summer activities boom. The county is home to 50 miles of paved bike trails and hundreds of miles of backcountry trails. Biking, hiking, off-road touring, and water sports from fishing to windsurfing, as well as world class resorts, help to draw in 3 million visitors per year. Golfing, tennis, and softball are also played throughout the summer. All of this means that you won't have any problem keeping occupied. On the off chance that occupying yourself isn't what you had in mind, this is one of the best places in Colorado to simply relax. The mountain sunshine, the scent of pines, the sound of water gently lapping against the shore. Summit county is the best prescription you'll find for urban anxiety, whether you want to blast down whitewater and single-track, or just enjoy the scenery and relax in a spa.
