The Padas River is situated to the south of Kota Kinabalu in the interior of Borneo Island. The river offers heart-pounding experiences, recommended for the more adventurous and experienced rafter. It is rated Grade III to IV and the rapids carry amusing names like Merry-go-round, Cobra, Lambada and Break Point.
The local life of Kota Kinabalu revolves around fishing, palm oil and rattan plantations, and increasingly, tourism. The province is ideal for great outdoor activities. There are great locations for snorkelling, diving and, of course, terrific forest and jungle excursions.
Unlike mainland Malaysia, Sabah (and Kota Kinabalu) is a more exotic and 'wild' and less touristy than other locations.
