The best way to truly get into the sports of whitewater canoeing and kayaking is to immerse yourself for 2 - 4 days of intensive instruction. We will help you discover the joy and freedom of whitewater paddling, and provide you with the instruction you need to become the paddler you want to be. Based on the Snake River and its tributaries, with some time spent in the pool or on Slide Lake, instruction is focused on strokes, maneuvers, technique, and rolling. We begin with basic boat control and balance, performing peel-outs, eddy turns, and ferries, and work our way up to slightly more advanced skills such as edging, bracing, beginning surfing, reading water, group awareness/safety, river strategy, scouting, rope throwing, and self-rescue. The goal is for you to run rivers skillfully and playfully.
