Our courses are for anyone who would like to learn to safely paddle. We want to teach you the techniques and help you develop the efficiency it takes to be an excellent paddler. We'll provide you with new boat designs and teach you the essentials of river safety. You can enjoy the sports of kayaking and canoeing at a level comfortable for you, and we can help you find that level and teach you the things you want to learn. Our goal is to provide the student with a level of comfort and safety, which will help make paddling the greatest experience of their life.
All of our courses are custom tailored for the individuals involved and are available every day throughout the season. Our basic kayaking courses are designed for the person who has never been in a kayak (if you know something about kayaking there are plenty of options for you too). Technique and essential skills are emphasized in all of our courses. Trained in First Aid and CPR, and certified by the American Canoe Association, our friendly, caring, and patient instructors use a time-proven, step-by-step teaching method we've developed and refined over the years. We have the perfect setting for you to develop the good habits, judgment, and confidence to have more fun on the water. So come as a group or let us put one together, but be prepared to want to return; many people do, and some of us just don't leave.
With slow sections ideal for beginners as well as world class play spots for accomplished paddlers, the Snake River is the ultimate river to learn and play on. Most of our courses begin each day on our privately owned, heated indoor pool, designed specifically for paddling, with a simulated four mile per hour current. This is a great place to practice basic strokes, balance, and edging. The pool is an excellent spot for learning the eskimo roll. For larger groups and longer courses we also use historic Slide Lake and the Gros Ventre River on the edge of Grand Teton National Park for flat water practice in preparation for moving water. A healthy and delicious lunch is provided, and then, depending on the particular skills to be introduced or practiced, the instructors pick an appropriate stretch of the Snake River or one of its many tributaries for an afternoon river session, all within a few minutes driving time.
With its spectacular mountain scenery and abundant wildlife, the entire Snake River Corridor is one of the most remarkable places to paddle in the country. Bald Eagle, Osprey, Moose, Elk, and occasionally Bighorn Sheep and River Otter are seen in and around the river every day. All protected within the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the class I and II whitewater of the upper Snake River provides an ideal location to master the fundamentals of whitewater paddling. Flowing into the Snake, the class II and III rapids of Granite Creek and the Hoback River provide a more technical stretch of river for developing and fine tuning intermediate whitewater paddling skills.
