Trekking the Futaleufu River valley allows trekkers to immerse themselves in the spectacular physical beauty of the best kept secret of Patagonia, whose climate is often sunnier and kinder than Torres del Paine National Park.
Most of treks offered by Expediciones Chile follow along the Ruta de Los Arrieros. These trails wind around lakes, through river valleys, and if trekkers choose, over high spectacular mountain passes.
They are more than just a wilderness experience. The trails are still the routes used by the locals to travel to their isolated ranches or settlements. It can be a wonderful cultural experience of traveling "back in time." Trekking in Patagonia at its best!
This is a spectacular four day half circuit trek through the lakes, rivers, and old growth forests of the Futaleufu River valley.
This trek moves through the core of the untouched Futaleufu Valley, exposing you to Patagonian nature in all of its wild splendor. In addition, trekkers will stay at several real working ranches run by pioneer families that are sprinkled along the rivers and lakes of the valley. Eating your hearty meals around the wood stove, you will gain insight into a way of life that is similar to the frontier days of the American West. This cultural and natural experience cannot be matched anywhere!
This trip is the REAL DEAL. The valley contains lots of exciting history from the days of the pioneers who settled it, and many of them are still alive. As the trip progresses, you realize you are beginning to understand this remote section of Patagonia and its people.
This trip departs from the village of Futaleufu and from Expediciones Chiles working ranch or lodge. T rekkers will be spending time on the trail and tenting at working primitive ranches, yet enjoying the comfort of eating dinner and supper inside.
Expediciones Chile invites you to come explore what they call the best kept secret of Patagonia, a magical place where hundreds of glacial lakes are connected by thousands of kilometers of pristine rivers, all flowing through the dramatic Andean Mountain range. Be enchanted by its natural rhythms, where condors soar in southern thermals high above turquoise rapids thundering through rarely explored granite canyons. Futaleufu means great great river in Chiles native Mapuche language and its reputation has made it one of the most coveted multi-sport destinations in the world.
