Trekking the Futaleufu River valley allows you to immerse yourself in the spectacular physical beauty of the best kept secret of Patagonia, whose climate is often sunnier and kinder than Torres del Paine National Park.
Most of treks offered by Expediciones Chile follow along the 'Ruta de Los Arrieros'. These trails wind around lakes, through river valleys, and if trekkers choose, over high spectacular mountain passes. They are more than just a wilderness experience. T he trails are still the routes used by the locals to travel to their isolated ranches or settlements. It can be a wonderful cultural experience of traveling "back in time." Trekking in Patagonia at its best!
This four day trip offers a series of spectacular treks amongst the lakes, rivers, and old growth forests of the pristine and remote Futaleufu River valley. The nearest paved roads are hours away. Each day trekkers are exposed to Patagonia nature in its wild splendor, the clear lakes rivers and pristine rivers.
Returning to lodge (or cabins) in the village allows you to interact with real pioneer culture. Grab your Spanish phrase book. Eating your hearty meals around the wood stove, you will gain insight to a way of life that is similar to the frontier days of the American west. This cultural and natural experience cannot be matched anywhere!
This trip is the REAL DEAL - a trip back in time. The valley contains lots of exciting history from the days the pioneers settled it and many are still alive to tell the stories. As the trip progress`s you realize you are starting to understand this remote section of Patagonia and its people.
Expediciones Chile invites you to come explore what they call "the best kept secret of Patagonia," a magical place where hundreds of glacial lakes are connected by thousands of kilometers of pristine rivers, all flowing through the dramatic Andean Mountain range. Be enchanted by its natural rhythms, where condors soar in southern thermals high above turquoise rapids thundering through rarely explored granite canyons. Futaleufu means "great great river" in Chile's native Mapuche language and its reputation has made it one of the most coveted multi-sport destinations in the world.
