Located along the Chilean & Argentine border, deep in the Andes Mountains and far from the international tourist paths, lies the world famous Futaleufu river valley.
Somewhat forgotten by time the settlements in this region are representative of the real Patagonia, unspoiled by the outside world.
Lago Espolon is a large, dramatic alpine-style lake nestled amongst the Andean peaks. High in a glacial basin, the scenery is spectacular. Expedition members will sea kayak and trek to small settlements, waterfalls, and up spectacular side creeks and valleys. The final destination of the trip is the alpine pueblo of Espolon, a little settlement in a world forgotten by time, where roads and electricity have yet to arrive. Expedition members will beach and secure their sea kayaks and head off backpacking in this remote area, or stick to day trekking from a lakeside campsite. There will also be an option stay at local ranches if guests prefer.
Expediciones Chile's sea kayak vacations allow sea kayakers to visit a pristine spectacular world seldom seen by people that they call the "best kept secret of Patagonia" - a magical place where hundreds of glacial lakes are connected by thousands of kilometers of pristine rivers, all flowing through the dramatic Andean Mountain range to the majestic fjords of the southern Pacific Ocean. The sea kayaking trips run through some of the most breathtaking scenery in Patagonia: across high glacier fed alpine lakes, river journeys through rarely explored canyons and spectacular wilderness areas, and explorations of the majestic costal fjords and isolated island archipelagos of Chilean Patagonia.
