Expediciones Chile welcomes whitewater kayakers to Campo Tres Monjas in the Futaleufu Valley.
Hidden at the confluence of the Rio Azul with the Futaleufu river is a whitewater kayaker`s dream camp that offers the inside track to all the paddling opportunities that make this remote river valley in Southern Chile the most sought after whitewater kayaking destination in the world.
Trip members will camp in comfort at a place that is completely designed for the whitewater kayaker. Campo Tres Monjas has sit-down dinning, a wood fired sauna, a masseuse, solar power, hot showers, a white sand beach, and the put-in and take-out just several feet from your tent. All this in a setting more rugged than Glacier National Park, with water and sky color as you would imagine in the Caribbean, all in a land partially forgotten by time.
Expediciones Chile offers guided, Class II-III, Class III-V and Class IV-V whitewater kayak trips each week. Upon arrival at the Tres Monjas kayak camp all kayakers will paddle a moderate stretch of whitewater to get an introduction to the Futaleufu and surrounding rivers. This initial paddle will help determine what group each kayaker will paddle in during the rest of the week. The idea is to allow each paddler to find their own comfort zone on the Futaleufu and sits tributaries. At any time throughout the week there will be ample opportunity for paddlers to move to a group of higher or lower skill level. This system allows all kayakers to dine, camp, relax and recreate together during the week while paddling whitewater that best suits their ability level.
Expediciones Chile's "Lite" trips are abbreviated versions of their weeklong kayak vacations on the Rio Futaleufu. These trips are designed for guests who don't have the time to spend a full week on the river or who may be going to other destinations in Patagonia. All Lite trips offer 4 full days of paddling on the Futaleufu River and other rivers in the valley.
Expediciones Chile invites you to come explore what they call "the best kept secret of Patagonia," a magical place where hundreds of glacial lakes are connected by thousands of kilometers of pristine rivers, all flowing through the dramatic Andean Mountain range. Be enchanted by its natural rhythms, where condors soar in southern thermals high above turquoise rapids thundering through rarely explored granite canyons. Futaleufu means "great great river" in Chile's native Mapuche language and its power has made it one of the most coveted kayaking destinations in the world.
