ITINERARY: Arrive at the Clear Creek/Idaho Springs office, where you will be greeted by our friendly office staff. You will let us know you’ve arrived and sign waivers (**NOTE: if you are bringing children under 18 who are not your children, please make sure to bring waivers signed by their parents! You may not sign for them). You will then head outside to receive wetsuits and splash jackets (if the weather warrants their use), life jackets and helmets. You’ll have time to change into the clothes you want to wear on the river and to lock any of your other belongings—such as wallets, valuables and extra clothing—away in your vehicle.

Take Me to the River

It’s time to go to the river! We'll put on the river across the street from out office. Your guides will give you a thorough safety talk. Then you’ll get into the boat, pick up a paddle and listen to your guide give you some paddling instruction. You’ll practice your paddling skills, and before you know it you’ll be headed straight for the whitewater! Rush through impressive scenery and even more impressive gradient that drops 150 feet/mile through the canyon.  The trip starts off with a bang with the infamous Beavers, two steep drops that are sure to get your attention, just seconds after learning how to paddle.  In the canyon, the excitement is non-stop through rapids like Guide Ejector, Hell's Corner, and Corkscrew. At the end of your trip, an AVA vehicle will be waiting to take you back to the AVA office.

The Post-trip Review

After you’ve changed into your dry clothes, check out the hilarious and action-packed photos from the day. After viewing your photos, you’ll have an opportunity to have them printed right there at our office or to have them burned to a disc to take home and print out yourself. Our retail shop has tons of AVA and rafting paraphernalia, from t-shirts and hats to picture frames and coffee mugs.

AVA provides wetsuits and splash jackets free of charge if the weather warrants their use.
