Beatrix Potter’s world extended throughout the Lake District, from Sawrey, Hawkshead, Yewdale and Tarn Hows in South Lakeland to Newlands and Derwentwater in the north and to the head of the Troutbeck Valley in the east.
This most comprehensive Lake District tour not only visits places associated with Beatrix Potter, her delightful characters, her farms and locations featured in the “Miss Potter” movie, but also includes a lake cruise on Coniston Water. Visit some other beautiful lakes and enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery this area has to offer. A visit to Hilltop farm is the highlight of this tour.
With frequent stops throughout the day for photographs and short walks, this tour is the ideal way to enjoy the landscape that Beatrix Potter loved and sought to preserve.
Itinerary
Itinerary
You will be picked up from your hotel and will travel by a mini coach, accompanied by an English-speaking guide. You will visit:
• Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm: Hilltop was an inspiration for many of Beatrix Potter’s tales and each room of this house contains something that appeared in her books. It is the home of Peter Rabbit.
• Jeremy Fisher's Esthwaite Water: Beatrix Potter found the scenery around Esthwaite Water just ideal for the home of her popular character, Jeremy Fisher.
• Jemimah Puddleduck's village of Near Sawrey: Near Sawrey a conservation village has a unique connection with Beatrix Potter. The Tower Bank Arms played a part in the Tale of Jemimah Paddleduck.
• Squirrel Nutkin's Derwentwater: St. Herbert’s Island situated in the middle of the lake was a source of inspiration for Squirrel Nutkin’s Nutkin Island.
• Tarn Hows and Monk Coniston Estate: The stunningly beautiful Coniston and Tarn Hows house some interesting habitat and wildlife: beautiful bluebell woods in the spring and rare fungi in the autumn. The surrounding woodlands have a mix of broadleaf and conifer trees.
• Yewdale, Yew Tree farm, Loughrigg Tarn: All these spots featured in the "Miss Potter" movie starring Renee Zellweger. The Yew Tree Farmhouse located in the Yewdale valley stars as Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top home in the movie.
• Coniston Water: It is the third largest lake and is set in very picturesque surroundings. You will be taken on a cruise on this lake.
• Hawkshead Village: This ancient village has a picturesque setting and is situated in the heart of the English Lake District.
• Ullswater: Enjoy a cruise on the "Queen of the English Lakes" as you take in the natural beauty surrounding the lake. The lake is situated in the area of Eden which is described as ‘England’s Green and Pleasant Land’. There are a host of pretty villages in the same vicinity.
• Castlerigg Stone Circle: The enigmatic ancient stone circle is almost 4000 years old and is situated within a panorama of rugged hills which appear different at times due to the ever changing Lakeland weather. There are 38 stones of variable sizes, some standing over 5 feet in height.
• Grasmere: Grasmere is a charming village with some great scenic spots. You will stopover in the village for lunch.
The tour returns to the starting point after approximately 8 hours.
