Experience the thrill of paddling through the Charles River Locks into Boston Harbor! Our Harbor Tour begins and ends at our T-accessible Kendall Square location.
We'll begin with a quick introduction to kayak strokes, then we'll launch our double kayaks and begin our paddle toward the Museum of Science.
We'll glide through the old locks of the original Charles River Dam (built in 1910), then paddle past the Nashua Street Park and under the Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge. We'll pass through the locks at the current dam (built in 1978) and enter Boston's Inner Harbor!
In the Harbor, we'll paddle to Charlestown Navy Yard to view the U.S.S. Constitution, U.S.S. Cassin Young, and other ships berthed there. From the Navy Yard, we'll enjoy the amazing waterfront skyline view, including Old North Church and the Financial District.
After returning through the locks, we'll explore the narrow, winding channels at North Point Park and break for snacks and non-alcoholic beverages before heading toward the Esplanade. If time allows, we'll explore Storrow Lagoon.
When it's time to come home, we'll cross the Charles to MIT, stopping mid-river to take in the skyline, including the Hancock and Prudential Buildings, Citgo Sign, State House Dome, and the Financial District.
Paddlers of all abilities are welcome, even those who have never paddled before, but you should be prepared to cover a moderate distance and paddle for at least two hours. Children ages 8 and older are welcome, but each child must be accompanied by one adult.

Directions can be found on our web page.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your tour is scheduled to begin.

What To Wear
On warm days in the middle of the summer, you will probably be comfortable in shorts and a T-shirt. Bring a sweatshirt or sweater in case you become chilled, and a windbreaker in case it's breezy. Bug repellent is also a good idea.

If it's cooler, you will want clothing you can layer for warmth, including a top layer that will protect you from the wind. Jeans, sweatshirts, fleece sweaters, windbreakers or light parkas are good layering options. If it is very cool or windy, gloves and a hat are also a good idea.

If you wear glasses, a retaining strap is a good idea. Retaining straps can be purchased at the Newton Boathouse or at many sporting goods stores.

Weather
If heavy rain, thunder, or lightning is in the forecast, your tour may be cancelled. Cancellation decisions will be made no later than 2 hours before the tour is scheduled to begin. Please call Kendall Square Canoe & Kayak at (617) 492-0941 if you have any questions as to whether your tour may be cancelled.

Cell Phones & Smoking
Charles River Canoe & Kayak operates all of our classes and trips in a smoke free environment. We also ask that all of our participants refrain from cell phone use during their class. Your cooperation is appreciated.
