No matter what your background, from the novice camper to the seasoned backpacker, there is something for you in this class. </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial>Set amongst the beautiful redwoods of Santa Cruz, the 1-Day Wilderness Skills clinic is a great way way to escape the hustle-and-bustle of the work week and get back to nature! Our trained instructors - expert survivalists and naturalists - are excited to share these sacred skills with you. Learning these timeless traditions, such as native shelter building and fire-by-friction, helps to build self-esteem and awareness from knowing YOU CAN SURVIVE! . </FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial>This class is 100% hands-on and appropriate for all ages, but the pace is geared towards teens and adults (children 12 &amp; under must be accompanied by an adult). Everything you learn, you will do! Be prepared for your next wilderness adventure by practicing these timeless skills. You WILL build a shelter, you WILL make fire, you WILL learn about edible plants, make native style traps, and learn several other indigenous skills.</FONT></P>
<P><FONT face=Arial>This class is about getting back to the earth, learning how our ancestors lived in harmony with our planet, and experiencing nature to its fullest. There is something here for everybody - come with an open mind and be ready to learn!</FONT></P>

Itinerary

Day Clinic Itinerary

<P><FONT face=Arial>This class is jam-packed full of information.&nbsp; The class runs from 10am-3pm, but often runs overtime till almost 4pm.&nbsp; You should bring an "easy" lunch as we will be working/lecturing while you eat.&nbsp;The basic outline of the day is as follows:<BR>-Shelter Construction<BR>-Fire-by-friction<BR>-Water collection and purification<BR>-Tools and misc. skills<BR>-Food (Edible plants, primitive traps, survival hunting)</FONT></P>

<FONT face=Arial>We provide all the equipment for your survival adventure! Just come prepared with clothing to spend a day in the outdoors, lunch, snacks, &amp; water, and a notebook &amp; pen to takes notes.</FONT>



Travel Information

Money

<FONT face=Arial>Your clinic will be reserved and paid for ahead of time - there is no need to remit payment at the class.&nbsp; However, our guides work very hard to show you a good time and do accept gratuities - it is an excellent way to show thanks for a good class.</FONT>


Destination Location

<P>Do NOT use Google Maps or Mapquest to get directions - we cannot allow for refunds/reschedules for people that miss their class because they chose to use their own directions.&nbsp; Even though the location is very easy to get to, all online mapping programs provide very poor directions to the class site.&nbsp; The best method to get to the Boulder Creek Boy Scout Reservation is as follows:</P> <P>Determine which city you are closer to: Santa Cruz, CA or Saratoga, CA.&nbsp; Drive to the nearest of these two cities using any of the major freeways (it is OK to use Google, Mapquest, etc to get directions to either of these cities).</P> <P><STRONG>From Santa Cruz:<BR></STRONG>Take Hwy 9 North to Boulder Creek (approximately 14 miles or 30 minutes). After passing through downtown Boulder Creek, turn RIGHT on Bear Creek Road.&nbsp; The Scout Reservation is approximately 1.2 miles down Bear Creek Rd on your right.&nbsp; Look for a large wood sign the reads "Boulder Creek Boy Scout Reservation".</P> <P><STRONG>From Saratoga:<BR></STRONG>Hwy 9 begins at the west end of Saratoga Ave in downtown Saratoga - take Hwy 9 South to Boulder Creek (approx 20 miles or 40 minutes). Just before reaching downtown Boulder Creek, turn LEFT on Bear Creek Road.&nbsp; The Scout Reservation is approximately 1.2 miles down Bear Creek Rd on your right.&nbsp; Look for a large wood sign the reads "Boulder Creek Boy Scout Reservation".<BR></P>

<FONT face=Arial>All instructors for this class have extensive knowledge and experience in Wilderness Survival.&nbsp; The 4 current instructors have all been teaching indigenous skills and wilderness survival for over 10 years each and have tought with numerous groups from law enforcement, to boy scouts, military, college groups, community centers, schools, and the general public.</FONT>


Transportation

<FONT face=Arial>Adventure Out does not provide transportation to the camp.&nbsp; However there are several options in addition to driving:<BR></FONT><FONT face=Arial>-Check out the </FONT><A href="http://www.adventureout.com/forum/" target="_blank"><FONT face=Arial>Adventure Out Rideshare Forum</FONT></A><FONT face=Arial><BR>-The Santa Cruz Metro bus (</FONT><A href="http://www.scmtd.com" target="_blank"><FONT face=Arial>www.scmtd.com</FONT></A><FONT face=Arial>) offers service to downtown Boulder Creek. Exit the bus at the Hwy 9 and Lomond street&nbsp;stop. Please advise Adventure Out at least 24 hours before the clinic if you will be arriving by bus. We will pick you up at the stop which is only 2-3 minutes away from camp.</FONT>
