This is the one day version of our popular two-day surf clinic. You are welcome to join us for just one day although we highly recommend that the beginner surfer with a true desire to learn how to surf take the full two days. So what will you be learning? This clinic was designed with the beginner in mind - we welcome complete newbies as well as people who have tried surfing on there own for a while and still need help. We will walk you through all the basics to get you started and catching waves!
Participants will learn about ocean awareness, wave breaks, ocean conditions, safety in and out of the water, wave etiquette, paddling, push up and pop up techniques, as well as riding waves and balancing. All students will start out in shallow areas riding the whitewater until they are comfortable with venturing further out. Our instructors are all CPR/First-Aid and lifeguard certified, and ready to teach you the basics of surfing.
We provide a safe and non-threatening environment for the beginning surfer - no angry localism here! Come have fun learning how to surf and explore the wonders of the ocean with our experienced guides. If you have ever thought about surfing and thought "no way", think again! Lets catch some waves!

Itinerary

Beginner Surfing 1 - Day 1

-Class will start with a brief land-lesson where we will teach you ocean safety, surf ettiquite, and the basic mechanics of paddling and getting up on the board. -Once everyone is ready, and after a bit of practice on land, we'll hit the water!  Your instructors will be right there with you helping you to catch waves and give you instruction where you need it most. -We usually take a short break widway through (bring snacks and water!).  During this break, our team of instructors will review the lesson so far and give each student individual advice. -Then back in the water for more waves!  The day will be at least 80%  water time!

Gear List

All equipment needed for surfing is provided by Adventure Out (wetsuit, surfboard, and booties).  Come prepared with normal beach items: -Towel -Bathing Suit -Sunscreen -Snacks & Water PLEASE REMEMBER TO SELECT A WETSUIT SIZE WHEN REGISTERING.

Money

Your clinic will be reserved and paid for ahead of time - there is no need to remit payment at the beach.  However, our guides work very hard to show you a good time and do accept gratuities - it is an excellent way to show thanks for a good class.

Destination Location

-This class takes place at Linda Mar Beach (also known as Pacifica State Beach) in Pacifica, CA. -We will meet at the south end of the main beach parking lot, adjacent to the Taco Bell. -Directions from San Francisco: From Interstate 280 South, take the Hwy 1 exit to Pacifica.  Continue another 6 miles. Guide(s)

Our instructors are all C.P.R. and First-Aid certified - senior instructors are lifeguard certified.  All Adventure Out instructors have a minimum 10 years of experience and are ready to teach you the basics of surfing.  Maximum student to instructor ratio is 4:1, average classes are 3:1.

Transportation

Adventure Out does not provide transportation to the beach.  However there are several options in addition to driving: -Check out the <A href="http://www.adventureout.com/forum/" target="_blank">Adventure Out Rideshare Forum</A> -The SamTrans bus (<A href="http://www.samtrans.com" target="_blank">www.samtrans.com</A>) offers direct service to the beach.  Exit the bus at the last Pacifica stop called the "Linda Mar Park n' Ride".  This is only a 1/2 block from the beach.  To access the samtrans bus from the city, taking the BART train (<A href="http://www.bart.gov" target="_blank">www.bart.gov</A>) to Daly City is an excellent option.

Accommodations

If you need accommodations, Adventure Out recommends the <A href="http://www.bestwesternlighthouse.com/" target="_blank">Best Western Lighthouse</A> or the <A href="http://www.pacificabeachresort.com/" target="_blank">Pacifica Beach Resort</A> in Pacifica.  Both are a short walk from the beach.
