Every year more and more people are getting out in nature by paddling a sea kayak - and this year it could be you. Enjoy a full day at Chatfield State Park trying your hand at sea kayaking. Start the day off learning how to choose a kayak, outfitting the boat, essential safety items and their usage and getting started with the basic paddle strokes. After lunch you'll focus on self-rescue techniques, a review and critique of paddle strokes, navigation and planning your upcoming sea kayaking adventures. You don't need an ocean to be a sea kayaker - any lake will do and we have plenty of them right here in your Colorado back yard. This course is perfect for those who are looking to take a sea kayaking adventure somewhere at sea and need to prepare for their trip ahead of time.
Itinerary
Day 1
<P>The class is broken down into three sections:</P>
<P>-Components of a sea kayak and their uses along with safety items. </P>
<P>-Balancing in your kayak, paddle strokes, turning with and without a rudder. </P>
<P>-Self-rescue demonstration and learning the kayak roll. </P>

<P>What to bring:<BR>- Lots of water <BR>- Waterproof Sunscreen <BR>- Something to get wet in (swimsuit)<BR>- Lunch and Snacks<BR>- Warm dry clothing for when you are off the water</P>
<P>Additional recommended items:<BR>- Fleece or other synthetic clothing (not containing cotton) that can be worn under a wetsuit<BR>- Kayak noseplugs (with a strap)<BR>- A hat<BR>- Sunglasses with retention strap (Croakies, etc.)<BR>- Wetsuit booties or river sandals (must stay on when you swim)</P>
<P>This lesson includes all the kayaking gear you will need including a boat, paddle, skirt, PFD, helmet, splash jacket, wetsuit and booties. If you have your own equipment, we encourage you to bring it since it is most likely what you will be using outside of this lesson.<BR></P>
